The Mill

The Mill

Explore for November 15th, 2007: #395 — Thanks, everyone! Willamette Falls have been surrounded by mills ever since European Americans first arrived. They used to take advantage of the water power to drive their wheels. Now, alas, they don’t.

This is a shot of the West Linn Paper Company, located on the north side of the falls. They burn natural gas to create steam, which drives their equipment. The valley around the falls fills with steam from this and the other mills (and the power plant) located there.

I wish they were using greener fuel, but at the same time I love the steam-filled valley. It’s so picturesque.

This was not shot in black and white. It just came out that way.
