Gamification finally recognised by tech analysts

London, England (PRWEB UK) 22 May 2013

At the Ovum Industries Conference 2013 last week, DigitalMR – an online market research specialist – was announced as the winner of the ‘On The Radar’ award for ‘Best Implementation of Enterprise Gamification’ through the use of its ‘eCommunities’ platform.

Gamification is ‘the use of game thinking and game mechanics (such as digital badges, points, achievements) in a non-game context in order to engage users and solve problems.’

eCommunities uses gamification to enhance its private online communities experience for improved online market research and co-creation.

Carter Lusher -Research Fellow & Ovum’s Chief Analyst for gamification- who also presented this award had this to say about eCommunities is: ‘an excellent example of how gamification can deliver direct business value. e.g. reduced member attrition from 30% to 3-5% and thus reduced costs. The project has provided valuable business insights into the relative importance of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Although an external customer-facing scenario, there are useful insights to be gained for internal applications as well.’

Another reason for winning this award was that Ovum was immensely impressed with the fact that the eCommunities platform is completely built in-house. Pictured on the right is Christos Aniftos – Digital Systems Director and creator of the eCommunities platform said ‘this is a great honour and a confirmation that we are on the right track with our software platforms; the fact that DigitalMR is an early-stage company makes the win of this award even more significant for us’.

Accepting this award on behalf of DigitalMR was online Research Director Ivana Mujic who said: ‘eCommunities has been a very helpful platform in our efforts to extract consumer insights for our clients.’

Other winners of the night included Pearson – the parent company of The Financial Times and Penguin – and Desire2learn.

Audio Spotlight’s Sound Beam Turns Heads At The Smithsonian Future Is Here Festival in Washington, D.C.

Watertown, MA (PRWEB) June 13, 2014

Holosonics‘ Audio Spotlight speakers sound like the stuff of science fiction: they produce a narrow beam of sound with the same precision as a flashlight. At any point inside the beam sound is clear and present, literally surrounding the listener’s head, while just a single step or two outside the narrow coverage area sonic bleed is nearly inaudible. Harnessing the miniature wavelengths of an ultrasonic carrier, and relying on entirely different physics than traditional loudspeakers, Holosonics’ Audio Spotlight system is literally capable of providing sound where you want it, and preserving the quiet where you don’t.™

The Audio Spotlight technology was a perfect fit for the spirit of The Smithsonian’s Future Is Here Festival, an annual celebration and exploration of science, technology, culture and the arts gathered around the exciting, elastic theme of future technology. Focused on motivating young people in science, guest speakers Deborah Berebichez of Science Channel’s Outrageous Acts of Science and Kari Byron of Discovery Channel’s Mythbusters used the Audio Spotlight speaker to pan the audience, giving those in attendance a truly unique listening experience.

As Berebichez explains, “We discussed the physics of sound and demonstrated the futuristic effect of Holosonics’ Audio Spotlight speaker by beaming the popular Pharrell Williams song ‘Happy’ to the audience. Having never experienced anything similar before, people laughed and applauded as the beam of music passed by their heads, and the excitement could be felt in the room.”

To help relate the benefits of Holosonics’ directional speakers, Byron and Berebichez referenced Hollywood’s science fiction blockbuster ‘Minority Report,’ which included scenes where actor Tom Cruise was singularly targeted on a public sidewalk with personalized retail advertising announcements. The futuristic concept was based directly on Holosonics’ Audio Spotlight technology, and adding controlled sound to digital signage or in-store product displays are already two of the more popular applications for their directional speakers.

Kari and Debbie discussed other practical applications where controlled sound is of particular benefit, such as museums, galleries, and trade show exhibits, kiosks, waiting rooms, offices, and healthcare facilities, and even assisted listening for the hard of hearing. As the technology continues to mature and evolve, they expect Holosonics’ speakers could one day be found in every household, allowing families to split-screen TV’s and listen to different programming from opposite sides of the same couch, or to help a slumbering partner sleep more comfortably in peace while their spouse watches TV beside them in bed.

Kari shares, “The Holosonic speaker is a perfect example of how today’s innovations can impact our daily lives for years to come. It was great to demonstrate the power of the Audio Spotlight technology to a science-minded audience.”

The world’s top organizations and companies use the Audio Spotlight directional sound system to beam sound to their listeners… and preserve the quiet.™

Staffing Firm Steps In to Sponsor NJIT Entrepreneurship Project

Somerset, New Jersey (PRWEB) June 02, 2013

Currently over 60 students are enrolled in various Interdisciplinary Design Studio (IDS) programs at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). Rangam Consultants, Inc., which is among the top strategic sourcing services and staffing firms serving its Fortune 500 clients in over 36 states in the United States, together with branding and marketing strategy company The Think Cloud and Brian Kiernan, will invest their money on eight students for summer long sponsorship. The two teams of four were selected at a presentation by 17 IDS teams during a recent workshop. The basic purpose of the workshop is to allow undergrads to use their theoretical knowledge to develop innovative technologies and also to venture into new businesses that justify their invented technologies. The two teams that received the summer stipend of $ 20,000 each were Autismind and TouchCare.

An NJIT bulletin says the students will be mentored by successful entrepreneurs from the corporate world, industry experts, renowned in-house faculty members as well as those from other reputed institutions. The course materials will include professional ethics, project development, global diversity, entrepreneurship and management.

“Practical knowledge and personal self-confidence gained by the students during the project development process is more important than the theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom environment. It is both fascinating and personally very satisfying to see how the students have progressed from being ‘starry-eyed big government program idealists’ to ‘down-to-earth pragmatists’ recognizing that one can also change the world through small incremental steps, while making a profit at the same time,” said Mr Kiernan, who is a charter member of the NJIT IDS External Advisory Board.

The IDS Program was founded in 2011 by Dr Atam Dhawan. In the current season there are three active class years comprising 17 teams. Once the program gets going steadily, there will be four class years at the same time.

“What these students have accomplished in such a short time is nothing short of amazing,” said Dhawan. “I’m so proud of what they’ve done and I know that after they graduate they will improve the technological fabric of American society,” he added.

“Entrepreneurs and small businesses have been playing and will continue to play a key role in the growth of US economy in areas of innovation and technology. So a program like IDS is of paramount importance for engineers to receive better training from industry experts in order to become young, successful entrepreneurs,” said Nish Parikh, Vice President of Rangam Consultants.

“Rangam is really fortunate to participate in and support the IDS Program. We’re looking forward to the success of the Program developed by Dr Dhawan,” said Hetal Parikh, CEO of Rangam.
